No Tiger Coverage
Editor, Times-Union:As a parent of a former Warsaw Lady Tiger, I find it distasteful for you, the county's largest newspaper, to hardly ever cover the Lady Tigers' ball games with a photographer. They are doing a great job again this year, and yet no pictures to show off their efforts, like most of the other schools in the area, some of which are not even located in this county. Why in the last several years have you chosen not to cover our games? The girls won the NLC tourney, the Hall of Fame Classic in Newcastle, and won outright their conference title, and with a record of 21-2 went on to win their sectional, held right here in Warsaw. But no one could be there from your paper to take a single photo. Now I suppose you'll say you only have so much room to report the area sports, so then at least make it fair to all the teams you do cover.
Good luck at the regionals, Lady Tigers!

Editor's Note: The Times-Union sports staff covered 24 of 25 Tiger girls' games this season, including the McDonald's Chicagoland Prep Classic. The other game was covered with a boxscore and roundup. There were photos of 11 games.
Basketball Fans
Editor, Times-Union:While I have not been a student for a long time, I feel compelled to respond to the letter writen by the "avid basketball fan" from Pierceton regarding the cheer block at Friday's Warsaw - Plymouth game. I am a long-time season ticket holder. For the past 10 years my seats have been in section H, which is under the basket opposite the student section and gives me an unobstructed view of their "antics." Compared to what I have seen and heard from other schools' student sections at games all around the state, the WCHS students are enthusiastic, have a lot of fun and are pretty well behaved.
Regarding seeing "all of them turn their back on the visiting team," this occurred during team introductions. I have seen this as well cheer blocks pretending to read the newspaper while the opposing team was introduced at so many games at so many schools that it is almost a clich and hardly registers.
If the cheer block did any booing, it must have been lost in the noise the other fans (adults) were making. I suspect that they were actually making noise in support of their peers on the court. I also suspect that Michael Moore was encouraging them to make more noise rather than less.
I have seen guys here and elsewhere without their shirts at any number of games. Usually, but not always, they are painted up in some manner. Hardly the end of civilization as we know it. I know for a fact that Athletic Director Fulkerson, Principal Brumfield and other staff members keep a close eye on the student cheer block and don't hesitate to do a little "bud-nippin'" when appropriate. So lighten up a little, "avid basketball fan," and enjoy the game.

Editor, Times-Union:So here we go again. Another batch of idiot politicians with nothing better to do than horse around with the clocks. Has it ever occurred to any of these morons that if Hoosiers cared about daylight-saving time we would have gone to it a long time ago?
I don't care what anyone says, there is only one difference between daylight-saving and no daylight-saving, and that's one hour in the evening. Don't try to give me the garbage that it makes it difficult to do business. I don't care what time zone you're in or who's on daylight-saving and who's not, it's still hard to remember where they are. I know. I've spent 30 years doing business all over the country and have spent a considerable amount of time talking to security guards because I forgot which time zone they were in.
I don't know about anyone else, but I've always thought it was kind of neat that Indiana was a little non-conformist. But I guess that's because I've always been one myself. Our stuffed-shirt politicians must find it just too embarrassing to leave it alone.

Rovenstine Says Thanks
Editor, Times-Union:I would like to publicly thank the Warsaw/Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce for the honor they gave me at their recent annual meeting. To receive the Government in Excellence Award was an honor and a humbling experience. To be mentioned among the great list of former winners is something that I will always cherish.
It has been a privilege to work for and with the Chamber on many different occasions. You always have been supportive of the Sheriff's Department and we are appreciative of that.
Kosciusko County should be proud of the partnership between its business community and local government. It should be equally proud of its emergency services, which include law enforcement, fire and EMS at the county and local levels. These are hard-working public safety workers that are dedicated to their jobs and making the community a better and safer place.
At the meeting Larry Easterday, the emcee of the evening, stated that he felt Kosciusko County was a place where dreams could come true. I agree with Larry and I want to thank God that he has allowed me to serve in my capacity for the last five years. It has been a blessing to live and serve in this community. Most of all it is a blessing to serve with the men and women of the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department. Thank you again, Chamber of Commerce, for the award.
