Headlights In The Rain

Editor, Times-Union:
While in Florida a number of years ago on a vacation, I learned that it is the law in that state for motorists to always turn on their headlights during a rain. I thought that was a good law then and I still think so now.

This afternoon (Jan. 29) while returning to Grace Village from North Manchester, I counted seven vehicles whose motorists had not turned on their lights. The sky was solid gray, very dreary weather, and it was raining. Needless to say, the approaching vehicles were barely visible. I am interested in the opinions of others, either pro or con, concerning this safe driving issue.

Big 10 Standings, Please

Editor, Times-Union:
The sports pages are full of all kinds of sports. They do a good job reporting the standings, etc. However, could you squeeze in a tiny corner with the Big 10 standings? I realize it changes a lot but we could see where our teams stand. Thanks.

New Hope Pet Rescue

Editor, Times-Union:
Several weeks ago an article appeared on the front page of The Paper featuring New Hope Pet Rescue. This wonderful work consists of three ladies who have opened their homes to companion pets who they have rescued or who others have brought to them. They are doing a marvelous work. I have known these ladies for over a year now and have seen the precious cats they have rescued. I have seen how many animals have come to them through various means and how they see very few adopted. As a result, they have many cats who will live the rest of their lives in their homes.

My purpose for writing this letter is to strongly urge a number of readers who, like me and these ladies, also have a burden for the precious desperate cast-off animals of society (this area) to financially contribute regularly to this wonderful work. The financial need that these ladies have is always enormous as there are frequently very large veterinary bills involved in nursing abused, neglected and winter-ravaged precious cats back to health. Some of the animals end up having costly ongoing health needs throughout their lives as a result of the pitiful beginning they had in life or as a result of the traumatic plight from which they had to be rescued.

Most of the cats need to be spayed or neutered after they are nursed back to health or raised from tiny kittens and this is costly. Then there is the cost of tons and tons of cat litter for so many cats. Good nutritious food and medications on a regular basis are also costly. There is a real need for people to stand with these ladies financially on a regular basis. They cannot continue to help the precious cast-offs of our area without people contributing regularly. They have no financial backing in any way.

Perhaps you thought others may be contributing for the needs there. If everyone leaves it up to others to help, then no one ends up helping. Please join me in giving money sacrificially on a regular basis as you are able, for the needs never subside.

I would be glad to give more information if you call 269-9399, or you could contact them directly at 457-4007.

Thanks To The Community

Editor, Times-Union:
As we enter into this new year we are grateful and comforted that we live in these bountiful United States. We can share our hopes and our dreams and look to the future of our children and grandchildren. We can rest assured that this nation will always be in a crusade for freedom and all that includes. We are a nation related to one another by our citizenship and bound by our constitution. We can believe in anything we want when we want and with whomever we please. This community's generosity is only superseded by its loving hearts. Our Father's House sends our grateful thanks to all of the people who made Christmas for others a blessed event.

In closing we pray that you and yours are safe, free and blessed as you have blessed others.
