Stolen Money
Editor, Times-Union:On Jan. 13, we cashed our Social Security check, paid bills, then kept an appointment at KCH Radiology at 2 p.m.
My wife and 3-year-old grandson were to wait in the waiting room, so I foolishly put my remaining cash in the jacket I wore along with pocket items.
Because a 3-year-old is active, there came a point where my jacket was sitting unwatched.
During that brief period, someone took the cash only that was in a money clip.
The cash is important to us, but my concern is that person felt empowered to keep the cash and my money clip.
Should that person feel the cash and clip are not worth the hurt caused to us, I believe the balance and the clip could be sent to KCH lost and found without using their name.
If not, please consider a reward would set better than the guilt of keeping an old person's income. You may be there someday yourself.
I forgive you.

Road Complaints
Editor, Times-Union:It is now 7:30 a.m. Wednesday and we had a horrible icing last night. Armstrong Road is nothing but a sheet of ice. My husband goes to work from 13 to 15 - nothing but ice. My son is coming from Warsaw on Armstrong the opposite direction - again nothing but ice and very, very dangerous.
As of 7:30, no sand or salt. It's not like we haven't had a mild winter and that all the salt and sand is gone. I heard the ice hit my window at 1 a.m. - plenty of time to get out and salt the roads - not like they didn't have a warning.
I called the highway department and they said, "Hmmm, I thought they got that," in a very condescending voice. This isn't the first time this has happened this winter.
Barbee, I just heard, is getting sanded. Gezzzzz, it's 8 a.m. Wow! What's the hurry? Try and do better for heaven's sake. I don't want my loved ones or anyone else in an accident because you aren't doing your job. They are very cautious drivers but when it's nothing but a sheet of ice, there's not much you can do. You can't take it with you (salt and ice) so quit saving it at our expense.

Love, Not Religion
Editor, Times-Union:This is to respond to the Lynette Sherrill letter titled "Gays", which first off I take offense to. I don't call straights Breeders do I?
Anyway, she is going on and on about Christianity dying out and that all Christians should speak out and be heard - well, when have they ever been quiet? Has she not watched the news? There are always some hate group out there preaching about something or another. At least the minority groups don't spread hate like some so-called "Christians" do. She made it sound like if you didn't follow the Christian way then you were less of a person. So not only did she put down homosexuals she also put down Jews, Catholics, and every other religion out there that is not Christian. Churches are no more than cults of people who think the same way and put down anyone who doesn't believe exactly the way they do ... it is sickening. And don't get me wrong, I am not talking about all people who go to church, but some people take religion way too seriously.
If you ask me, any God who spreads hate is no God that I want to believe in. So I say let's forget it all, and just follow the way of love. Love all people no matter what there differences may be. Find the beauty in all things. Enjoy life to the fullest and don't waste your days spreading hate and violence. Equal rights for all. Maybe that can be done once we have Hitler - oh, wait, I mean Bush - out of office!
Also I would like to know were she found that study because there is no way they made more money.

Public Apology
Editor, Times-Union:In Monday's letter to the editor I made a comment that Mrs. Gunter had held the office of president in the KDI and was attending meetings of the same special interest group. After a lengthy discussion with Mrs. Gunter, I was informed that these statements were and are in apparent error on my part.
And in my speaking with her it is apparent that my sources of information were also wrong. So if possible, let this letter to the editor of the Times-Union be a public apology to Mrs. Gunter for any misunderstanding or misinformation that I wrote in Monday's letter to the editor pertaining to any conflict of interest that she may have had or not have had with this special interest group. In this phone call, she said she has had no interest either privately or publicly with this group, nor has she ever attended any of these meetings.
Mr. Editor, I can accept this as being the facts. So, again, I apologize to Mrs. Gunter for any undo stress or for faulting her integrity as an elected officeholder that I may have caused her for this error of information that I had been given and I made as a public fact. Be it also stated that she says she does recuse herself or does abstain from voting when she does have conflict of interests with those groups she does belong to, as, for example, The Kosciusko Foundation. When asked why this fact is not stated in the Times-Union, she did not know.

Re: Mauk's Letter
Editor, Times-Union:Wisdom doesn't conduct a war on terror. Leadership knows it is more possible to stock Saturn with trout than to rid the world of evil. Global wisdom suggests a catch-and-release program for rogue nations.
The political elite of rogue states trap their business leaders (big fish) in narrow tanks of servitude where, as in rape rooms, they are abused. Robbed of the ability to distribute the wealth which they generate, they're threatened with the amputation of a fin or worse if they open their mouth. Hardly the incentive one would prefer when rolling from the rack to put the morning Braun on.
We told them they had to close their treasure chest down.
They would quite naturally rather kill us be we Muslims, Christians or crawfish. Unfortunately, both are crawfish.
We moved our military into that region for 12 years. During that period, a lot of big fish created a tsunami. By the time we rolled into Baghdad, that aquarium was all but closed.
We didn't go to all that trouble for a 21-day cruise into Baghdad. Osama suggests we could call this whole thing off. Old as I am, that sounds like a great idea, but once you're in the middle of a lake, you might as well just swim to the other side. You won't get any wetter.
We, too, have this road map and the planet's future suggests we navigate by it. If all the big fish swim in the same sea, we believe that'll make for smoother sailing.

P.S. Bush has the power of Zeus. In certain ranks, it's called the "Full Battle Rattle." Scuttlebutt has it appearing at the theater this fall. Anybody else got a line on that?
Smith Rebutted
Editor, Times-Union:Re: "Wire Tapping Protects" by Greg Smith.
You asked what adjective would be used to describe the attack on the Twin Towers and the 3,000 lives lost? I am not for sure there is one to fully convey the situation. After the fact, I would have described it as an Act of War and let the world know that the "paper tiger" was not paper.
GWB did go beyond limitations when he didn't apply for warrants within 72 hours of his authorizing wiretaps. You say we cannot fight a war blind. (First of all, why are we fighting a war with Iraq?) Do you consider this true when you know it's a one-man war and he doesn't write orders to his subordinates and does not know most of what they do?
You also stated that we don't have nation waging war against nation. This I totally agree with. GWB is. And he's using the USA to its defrayment. While he spends like a drunken sailor in the Mideast, he's crippling the American citizens and the USA.
"W's first priority is to assure the safety of American citizens." True. But does this mean he has to kill thousands of innocent Iraqis? Besides, the fact is that terrorism has increased 300 times since CIC "Georgie-Boy" went after Saddam and let bin Laden go free. I truly believe Osama could/would have been handed over in five days if it would have been handled correctly. But, no, GWB wasn't concerned about the man who destroyed the Twin Towers and killed 3,000 Americans. GWB was only concerned how he could use that catastrophic event to invade Iraq.

More Police Patrols
Editor, Times-Union:I moved up to Warsaw about eight years ago from Indianapolis. I love the small town feeling, being able to work five minutes from my home. However, in the past year my car has been broken into not once, but twice. Both times they have done major damage to my car. In both instances I have phoned the police and have filed reports. This last time I was informed that there really was not anything the police could do except file the report. That it was more than likely people hooked on drugs looking for easy stuff to pawn for drug money.
I was very disappointed to hear that there was basically nothing I could do except pay more money to install an alarm, or have the lights on in my house all night to make an intruder think somebody was awake. I think it is wonderful the police have been able to shut down several of the dealers here in town, however, I feel that something needs to be done about the smaller crimes as well.
I lived in a big city for more than half my life and never had anything happen to me or my family. I am not accusing the police of not being good at what they do. My father has been a state policeman for 30 years and I have the utmost respect for anyone in uniform. I just feel that if an area has a history of break-ins, the officers should be able to add those areas to their patrols.
