Time

Editor, Times-Union:
The sun appears in the east to travel across the sky to the west casting a shadow on the sun dial. The sand moves to the bottom half hour of the hour glass in exactly one hour. The hands of the clock move endlessly, marking time as they travel. Time waits for no one, no time like the present, a stitch in time saves nine ...

In the far distant past, our prehistoric families awoke after a period of darkness to the bright light of the sun shining through the narrow opening of our most simplest of dwellings the cave. After determining that every member of the tribe was present and accounted for we started another period of light in preparation for the oncoming period of darkness. In this age time was the simplest of things, it was divided into two parts light and darkness. This is exactly the way time was perceived at the beginning of our awareness of the concept of time. Which by the way was the genesis of our evolutionary progression ... Familiarity evolved into memory or reflection. need evolved into determination and passion. Want evolved into making preparations for tomorrow. This leads to the realization that time was more than light and darkness. Our ancestors have connected the past with the present and the future ... To learn from the mistakes of the past so that they are never repeated in the present and the future is commendable, it's also the very precepts of intelligence, awareness and the process of progressive thinking.

The past may be called history, I'd rather not. Too many variables. I'd rather call it chronology, an accurate account of past events. These accurate accounts are sometimes hard to find but they do exist and it is possible to find them. Including ancient and prehistoric.

Our prehistoric ancestors discovered a valuable tool in learning from the past and planning for the future. They fully understood the connected state of the three parts of time.

Half a million years later we seem to forget that the future is constantly slipping into the past. We also forget that the only thing that is constant is change. We seem to want to put distancce between past and present, and present and future. There is no distance! There are, however, two aspects of time. 1. Chronometric. 2. Psychological. No. 1 being clock time and No. 2 being off the clock. Psychological time allows one to travel the full range of time past and future through memory, insight and imagination ...

These are evolved concepts of time that have existed since the dawn of time. The words dawn of time seem redundant when we realize that time is dawning endlessly ... Embrace the future and learn from the past and the kingdom of God will be here at last.

But only if the kingdom is our objective.

Angels

Editor, Times-Union:
We the Clemens family, Gordy, Dana, Chelsea, Colin, Justin and Erin, would like to thank all of our wonderful family, friends and people of our community for all of your love and prayers that you have sent our way. We cannot begin to explain what kind of blessings we have received from God and all of you these past couple of months! The only word that comes to mind is overwhelming. The love is overwhelming. The thought and prayers are overwhelming. We have been shown by all of you the true meaning of Christmas this year! We can't tell you how much it truly touches the very bottom of our hearts, to know that we have this many great people who love and care for us. Thank you to all of you for every little thought and prayer you gave in our name. Special thanks go to two very wonderful people, Dave and Denise Terry. You guys are angels.

Success

Editor, Times-Union:
What is success? Who is successful? Is man's success the same as God's success? We come into this world with nothing. We leave this world with nothing. While we are here we have gifts of intelligence, imagination, personality, talents and energy from our Creator. These we take for granted, and through education improve or choose not to improve the gifts. Some achieve success and say, "I did it!" But do we remember that we first were endowed by God?

Would we not be poor indeed without God's gift of life, and gifts, and mercy and love? Remember, we are born poor, and will die poor. If we are anything, it is because God is everything. If he would hold from us the breath of life in 10 minutes our physical existence would end, and our souls would enter endless eternity, where success is determined by God alone.

My devotional book a few days ago told a success story. It tells of Jeff in Florida, born with no arms and two badly bent legs. At Shriners Hospital he was fitted with an atrificial arm and a hook. Many surgeries later, he was able to walk on his short bent legs. A nurse taught him that he was (Psalm 139:14) "fearfully and wonderfully made." He believed this because "it is not my outward form that makes me wonderful." He writes, "Since the day I asked the Lord Jesus to come into my life, what others call handicaps have become a springboard for me to share God's love with a lost and dying world." Jeff learned God's love from caring Christian people and is today serving the Lord, realizing fulfillment, success.

It would almost seem that bodily wholeness and worldly success are handicaps to success in God's sight. But it need not be, if our head and heart are on straight, in God's eyes. We are all fearfully and wonderfully made. Let's strive for success in God's plan for us, as did Jeff.
