Social Security

Editor, Times-Union:
The Social Security controversy over if it is "broken" or not seems to be the one topic that most Americans are interested in for themselves. Many financial experts say it's not broken, and provide their method(s) to maintain it as it is and was designed for. "W" says his way is the only way to support it in the future. His plan, for privatization up to 60 percent, is casting weary seniors into doubts about if it will be around for their children and grandchildren. His plan will greatly reduce dollars going to Social Security. This lack of funds must be met in other ways. One, most assuredly, is cutting benefits. (Will "W" present a cut for congressional members?) I doubt if either side of this issue is totally correct. The true method for shoring up Social Security is place every member of the U.S. Congress, along with the president and all federal employees on the Social Security system and do away with their "special" opulent retirement and pensions. This should also go for state, county and city government. This move would take care of the many, NOT just the few.

God Offers The Cure

Editor, Times-Union:
Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could find a cure for the troubles that plague life? If we could get a shot that would give to everyone love instead of hate, satisfaction instead of greed, and that shot would and could wipe out past mistakes, failures and sins. Wow!

In love and mercy God offers that cure. Man in blindness, stupidity, stubbornness, egotism, love of sinful pleasure, refuses to take that shot.

Being sick you seek a doctor's help. He gives you a prescription. You decide to ignore his advice and refuse to get the medicine. Your condition worsens. Can you blame the doctor? Hold him responsible? No. You are at fault.

There is a cure! The great physician, God, offers the remedy for every problem, confusion, disillusionment, sin in life, and replaces it with joy, righteousness, contentment and happiness. Then a peace comes which is not dependent on outward circumstances, no matter how harsh they may be.

That cure is dependent on personal choice, commitment to Jesus Christ. To refuse it is to continue in life's troubles, and the consequences. God cannot be blamed. It is not God's fault when you refuse the cure. No. He gave his only begotten son, Jesus, who alone is the cure! John 3:16 in the Bible. Bow, thank him and receive the cure!

Cable Channels

Editor, Times-Union:
Re: letter from Sue Gooding, Jan. 5, 2005, about our local cable. I too am very disappointed in our cable company. It sounds like control and I am not one to be controlled by anyone! I would much rather watch the Fort Wayne stations as I am from the Auburn area. I shop occasionally in Fort Wayne, most is done here in Warsaw, my home now. I don't see any reason to go to South Bend or Goshen. Wouldn't know my way around! I'm just glad we still get channel 21 Alive. To think we were considering getting digital TV. Ha!

Thank you, Sue, for the address to Corporate Comcast. They will be hearing from me!
