Alone At Christmas
Editor, Times-Union:Once more, Christmas has come and gone, but for those who are alone on that special holy day, it hardly seems like Christmas. It is particularly difficult for the elderly to be alone on Christmas and, to them, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are often just another evening and another day. Now when you're alone on Christmas and up in years, you have two choices. You can either sit around and feel sorry for yourself, or you can reminisce - that is, you can transport your mind back to the good old days when you were young and had your family around you.
And do you know what can inspire you toward the desire to reminisce, to recapture the past? The Christmas tree! There's something about gazing at a sparkling, luminous, brilliantly lighted Christmas tree that can help to bring back warm, intimate, yuletide memories of another era.
In fact, with a little effort, you can stretch that imagination of yours until you are back in the days of yore reliving a joyful, exhilarating, Christmas morning when you can smell the turkey, and the dressing, and the pumpkin pie baking in the oven. And you can detect the pungent fragrance of the pine needles on the Christmas tree in the living room; furthermore, you can actually envision a pile of colorful, gaily wrapped gifts under the tree, not to mention the inevitable stocking filled with Christmas goodies hanging by the fireplace.
So, all of you octogenarians, the next time you are alone on Christmas, just cast your eye upon the miraculous and inspiring Christmas tree and, due to memories of Christmas past, along with visions of the Christ child in the manger in Bethlehem, you shall no longer feel alone, no longer feel that the world has passed you by.

Thanks To Students
Editor, Times-Union:I would like to start the new year right by thanking some very important people of Warsaw, and they are The Student Council Service Committee of Warsaw Community High School.
Last fall when it seemed as though the leaves fell from all the trees at once, I was out back in the corner of my kitchen and garage starting to rake this mound of leaves, when suddenly this group of 10 young people came to my rescue. They cleaned the yard up quickly and thoroughly and saved me a week's work. I offered them money for lunch but they refused. I cannot thank them enough.
I also would like to thank my neighbors - Ashby, Brown and Fancils, for all their help with the snow and leaves. Thanks a million and Happy New Year!

Enjoyed Film Festival
Editor, Times-Union:Hello! My name is Jessica. My son, Jacob, and I really enjoyed the Film Festival in the summer of 2003 at North Pointe Cinemas.
I have worked since age 16 and I am now 36. I was finally blessed with a wonderful child at the age of 30. I had to work full time since I was a single mom. Unfortunately, that means that I was not a large part of my son's everyday life for three years. I had to take him to day care five days a week from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. I met a great guy and we are now married. I have had the wonderful chance to stay home with my 5-year-old son and we now are expecting a child in April. I am so glad that I have the chance to thank all of the sponsors for this awesome opportunity to spend good quality time with my son. I am hoping I will be able to enjoy this in the years to come with our new child also.
