MENTONE - Lester E. Blackburn, 94, of 2369 S. Country Club Road, Warsaw, and formerly of Mentone, died at 12:55 a.m. June 15, 2009, in Grace Village Health Care, Winona Lake.

He was born March 23, 1915, in Kosciusko County, to George A. and Nettie May Morris Blackburn. On Sept. 13, 1934, in Mentone, he married Pauline E. Blackford, who died Dec. 8, 1975. On Aug. 28, 1976, he married Shirley Rackeweg, who survives.

He was a lifetime farmer and raised registered Hampshire hogs. He was a 1933 Mentone High School graduate, where he played basketball and baseball. He was a member of Walnut Creek United Methodist Church, Warsaw.

Also surviving are a son, Burdell (and spouse Darlene) Blackburn, Warsaw; three daughters, Sue Ellen Rupert, Columbia City, and Linda (and spouse Ken) Jones and DiAnne (and spouse Charles) Smith, all of Claypool; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Janet and Debbie; and several step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Charles, William, Carl and George Blackburn; seven sisters: Blanche and Isabelle Blackburn, Ethel Shafer, Grace Schiefer, Mabel Baker, Mary Rensberger and Beulah Timmons; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; and a stepson, Larry.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with the Rev. Robert Wyman officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Center Cemetery, Etna Green.

Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
