He was born Oct. 14, 1929, in Akron, to Russell L. and Carrie I. Churchill Swihart.
He retired from Eaton Controls, North Manchester. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the Conservation Club, Silver Lake.
Surviving are two daughters, Patty Bumgardener, North Manchester, and Linda Warren, Warsaw; four sons: David (and spouse Cassie) Swihart, Silver Lake; Randal Swihart, Silver Lake; Michael Swihart (and significant other, Rhonda Clevenger), Silver Lake; and Eric (and spouse Vicki) Swihart, Auburn; three sisters: Pauline Ruff, Norma Hyatt and Judy (and spouse Gene) Montague, all of Akron; a brother, Jack (and spouse Ann) Swihart, Gilead; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor Roderick Smith officiating. Graveside military rites will be conducted at the Akron Cemetery Monday by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1343 and American Legion Post 36, Rochester.
Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
