SYRACUSE - Leonard Lawrence Cavender Sr., 94, Cromwell, died at 11:20 p.m. Aug. 12, 2009, at his residence.

He was born April 19, 1915, in Talbot, to Floyd and Mina Cavender. On June 9, 1940, he married Ruth Swartzell, who survives.

He was an area resident since 1961, coming from LaGrange, Ill. He previously worked at Bendix and Studebaker, South Bend, and retired from International Harvest, Bridgeview, Ill. He was a World War II Army veteran.

Also surviving are two daughters, Patricia (and spouse Edward) Kott, Cromwell, and Janet (and spouse Craig) Grabiec, Mena, Ark.; three sons: Leonard (and spouse Mary) Cavender II, Chicago; James Duane Cavender, Syracuse; and Michael (and spouse Jeanette) Cavender, Santa Clarita, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, brother and sister.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, Syracuse.

Calling is from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
