American Legion Auxiliary President Kathy Snell said donations are received from the community at the legion year round and she never knows what to expect with the loaded cars. She said typically, donations range from clothing, food and hygiene products.
“It’s very fulfilling,” Snell said. “We do a lot more than a lot of people know in this area.”
She said the legion will organize all of the donated items and then strategically disperse them depending on the need.
Snell said this year for Christmas, the legion was able to adopt two families of disabled veterans.
“We function as a family here and we reach out,” Snell said.
She said the legion also provides transportation for disabled veterans, assists families of veterans in need, provide financial backing and help them to find jobs.
“I can’t think of any other place I would want to be working other than here,” Snell said.
