Left & Right

In my opinion, the American people have forgotten where we have come from and what our purpose is as a collective people.
The Boston Tea Party was a group of people standing up to the increasing role of government in their lives. Anyone who uses the terms "right wing" or "left wing" cannot truly define what those terms really are. The political spectrum, at least since I last took any government class, placed Communists on the far left, and Fascists or Nazis on the far right.
This is bogus as both forms advocate total government under an oligarchy, the rule by a group. Both the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany were claiming they were defending the state from outside force. In actuality, they were advocating the same exact thing. A more accurate political spectrum puts total government on the left, and no government on the right. Both the Republicans and the Democrats have been advocating a move toward a total government under their control. I advocate a government under a Republic - the rule of law that keeps government in check and leaves the people alone.
The Founding Fathers expected future generations to realize that the law is to be held in the highest accords and everyone is accountable to their fellow man and to the law. What has happened throughout our history is a gradual shift toward total government. I wish for the government to move back to its proper place of protecting the rights of the people. The United States is a Republic - and not a Democracy. For anyone wanting to know the difference, see www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_boAGNPmNQ
Now it has been asked in general discussion where several policies throughout history belong in the Constitution. The Interstate Highway System can be justified under Article I, Section 8(a) and (g). Wire tapping has been held as Constitutional under the Fourth Amendment. Other things like national parks, beautification projects, Social Security, NASA, Medicare, the FDA, Medicaid, mandating the people purchase health insurance and the federal reserve does not, "promote the general welfare" of the American people as in the people do not generally benefit from any of those laws.
Lastly, many people read the First Amendment as a "Separation of Church and State." Yes, it does state that, "Congress shall pass no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;" however, many of the first people who came to the colonies were escaping the religious persecution of the Anglican Church - the official State Church of England. The Founding Fathers wanted to make sure that the new Republic they created would not have an official church.
We have completely forgotten where we came from and how we started. The American people must put the America we see now into a crucible and burn away the partisan politics, the special interests, and the excess of government and keep the pure product of America, the Republic. I pledge allegiance to this republic, for which it stands, one nation, under God.
