Leesburg Votes for Web Domain, Motors

Council member Doug Jones said he has updated Leesburg’s town website and he is ready to launch it in the next few days. He said there were some issues with the software and it made it difficult to upload web changes.
The board approved purchasing web hosting for $111 per year and a web domain for $20 per year. Jones said everything will be easier. Jones said based on the website statistics, the town’s website is used frequently. He plans to launch the new website in a few days and include the new codes and ordinances.
Derek Tenney, who oversees maintenance, said he has had a “very busy month.” He said there were four pumps and a sewer line in the town that went down. After repairing these issues, the board approved for him to purchase new motors.
In other business:
• Street commissioner Brandon Queen reported a bid from Weed Inc. to clean the town’s storm drains. The bid was $1,950 and the board decided to table this until next month’s meeting. Queen said residents need to bag all of their leaves until the first of October unless the leaves start falling quick enough to bring the machines out earlier.
• The board decided to move forward with its code codification. The board was concerned with the appendix, but want to progress to the next steps by approving the codifications and putting them online.
• President Tom Moore suggested a railroad quiet zone, but it is a federal law for trains to blow its whistles. He also learned there is $50 million liability and a reason why many towns have not adopted these zones.
The board reminds the town there is no burning of anything at any time and there is not parking on any city street between the hours of 3 to 5 a.m. The next regular town council meeting is Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m.
