LEESBURG - Police have not located the man alleged to have robbed a Leesburg business and injured an employee there Friday night.

The suspect in the armed robbery is described as a Hispanic male 6 feet tall and weighing about 250 pounds. He reportedly was dressed in all black, including pants, sweatshirt, ski mask and Nike shoes, which had white emblems on them. He also was said to be wearing yellow gloves.

According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, a 19-year-old female employee suffered a head injury during the 10:04 p.m. incident at Leesburg Deli & More on Ind. 15 (Main Street).

The employee told police that she was taking the trash out the back door of the business when the suspect grabbed her and pulled out a gun. The weapon was described as a black and silver automatic handgun. The two then went into the business through the back door, where the suspect reportedly saw a videocassette recorder and told the employee to turn off the surveillance system. When the teen-ager told the suspect that she couldn't shut it down, he allegedly ordered her to walk to the cash register and retrieve the money.

The suspect reportedly stayed by the doors between the shopping area and the kitchen/office area while the employee got both cash drawers.

When the employee returned to the waiting suspect, the man allegedly "banged" her head against the counter, forced all of the money into the front pockets of his pants and exited the store through the same door he entered.

A search of the area Friday night was unsuccessful in locating the suspect.

Anyone with information regarding this robbery is asked to call the sheriff's department at 267-5667. [[In-content Ad]]
