LEESBURG – A vehicle running off a road south of Leesburg on Wednesday afternoon quickly led to a landslide of charges for Tyler Scott Boocher.
Boocher, 20, of 240 EMS T26 Lane, Leesburg, attempted to flee from a stolen Ford Windstar that he crashed, according to Deputy Sheriff Chris Anderson. Anderson and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department arrived on the scene within minutes of the incident.
During the course of the investigation, Anderson and other deputies determined that the crashed vehicle had been previously taken from the Warsaw Walmart parking lot. Officers located the owners of the van, who were unaware that their vehicle was stolen while they were shopping.
KCSD deputies apprehended Boocher after being advised at 1:31 p.m. of a vehicular crash at the intersection of Armstrong and Baseline Road, just south of Leesburg. Boocher was subsequently arrested and preliminarily charged with felony auto theft, illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor, operator never licensed and failure to stop after an accident.
Boocher also was charged with theft after taking items into his possession from inside the van. KCSD detectives also were able to acquire surveillance video of Boocher from the Walmart loss prevention department.
He is currently being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $5,250 bond.
Due to the severity of incapacitating damage to the stolen vehicle, the victims were transported back to their home in Whitley County by Anderson.[[In-content Ad]]
