Leesburg Hears Updates On Street Painting, Curb Project

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

LEESBURG – Leesburg Town Council met briefly and discussed railroad paint initiatives and updates on its curb replacement project Monday evening.
Street commissioner Brandon Queen said while painting road marks he also paints on the road near the railroad tracks. He said due to heavy traffic, these lines near the tracks rarely last more than a couple of months. He discussed the possibility of torching down these marks. This could be done with assistance from Phend & Brown. Board President Tom Moore agreed to listen to bids for the torching.
“It’s really important and it would stay for five to 10 years,” Queen said. “Paint alone doesn’t do the trick.”
The board also said the Church Street curb project is “coming along great.” The asphalt portion is complete and the concrete padding portion is also almost finished. The board said this project is expected to be completed by the next board meeting.
In other business:
• Shelly Heckert, director of Kosciusko County Solid Waste, attended the meeting and discussed various components of recycling and discussed steps to get recycling bins back in Leesburg.
• The board set a public budget meeting for 6:30 p.m. Monday. The board reminds the town there is no burning of anything at anytime, there is no parking allowed on any street from 3 to 5 a.m. and leaving grass clippings in the road is not permitted. The town garage sale is June 19 to 20 and town clean up is scheduled for June 26 to 27. Dumpsters will be set up on East Prairie Street.
The next regular meeting for the board is at 6:30 p.m. on July 13.
