LEESBURG - Residents planning to attend the regular meeting of the Leesburg Town Council Monday night were greeted with a handwritten sign stating that the meeting was canceled.

Due to the resignation of two council members, Jay Weaver and Ryan Robinson, there was not a quorum and business could not be conducted. Town attorney Vern Landis, of Rockhill Pinnick LLC, met with Town Clerk Melissa Robinson, Street Commissioner Ed Riordan and remaining council member Rick Stookey to discuss what is the town's next step.[[In-content Ad]]According to Kosciusko County Republican Chairman Randall Girod, a caucus will be held to name the two new board members.

A town council member is normally chosen by a caucus of Republican precinct committeemen. Harold Jones is the only Republican precinct committeeman for Leesburg. Jones' legal residence, the residence listed on his voter registration information, is in Leesburg.

The caucus will be March 25 at 7 p.m. at the Leesburg Town Hall. Anyone interested in the position must be a resident within the town boundaries of Leesburg.

Interested candidates must file a declaration of candidacy with Girod no more than 72 hours before the caucus begins.

Declaration of candidacy forms (CEB-5) will be available from the Kosciusko County Clerk's Office, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw, beginning Wednesday.

Once the new council members are selected, a town meeting will be scheduled and business will continue as usual.
