A lot has happened in Leesburg lately: Two town board members resigned, one forced to because of alleged assault. Our town meeting was canceled and will have at a later date.

One town businessman went to ask for a copy of town financial records, which caused some problems more than I will address at this time.

One thing was brought up: Why are we paying Steve Woods $22 a hour to do work that should be done by Ed, the town street worker? I understand that Woods wants a board member spot. He has blocked the streets with junk cars for years causing safety issues with school buses not being able to get by. Instead of Ed writing him a warning, Ed writes warnings to people that are in compliance with parking in town. Ed should not need any help at all, there's not much to do anymore. Leaves in the fall, snow in the winter, that's about it. Let's not forget about the street sweeper that has never worked except for blowing dust and dirt all over the houses and cars in town.

Times are tough but board members still were able to vote pay raises to town employees. Mrs. Robinson makes now approximately $26,000 a year for about 10 or so hours per week. I'm sure a bookkeeper could do it faster and cheaper.

Last but not least the rant about the Jones boys not being happy is far from the truth. Harold Jones is one of the most respected men I know, not only by me but hundreds of other people as well. He has been in business in Leesburg for 40 years helping this town be what it is today. Harold has also held the county councilman position for God only knows how long.

I think an audit should be done of town finances, money paid and money paid out for subcontract services. This letter only scratches the surface of problems. Maybe with new town board members to be appointed soon, these as well as other problems can be taken care of.

Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) are for people over the age of 70.5 years old. Unlike other distributions, which are taxed at ordinary income tax rates, Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) allow for a tax-free distribution from an IRA, provided that the distribution goes directly to a qualified charity.
