July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
WINONA LAKE - Food lovers can sample a little of five different kinds of ethnic food at Lakeland Christian Academy's fund-raiser banquet Saturday.
The theme this year for the annual event is "United for His Glory." The idea behind the theme is to highlight America's diversity through various ethnic foods but also show there is unity through Christ.
Saturday's banquet is at 6:30 p.m. at Lakeland Christian Academy, 1093 S. CR 250E, Winona Lake. Cost per person is $15 and a person can pay at the door. Reservations are due by 3 p.m. Friday. To make reservations, call 267-7265 or e-mail [email protected]
Local caterer Elissa Dociamore Hales will provide the Italian food. Michel Allueva, from Vintage France, will provide the French food. Providing the German dishes will be Nancy Peugh, who spent 22 years in Germany as a missionary. Tsi Sou will provide the Laotian food, while Martin Malagon, from La Pasadita, will round out the list with a Mexican dish.
Each person who attends will have a small serving of each of the five different types of food. More than 140 people are expected to attend the fund-raising event.
As part of the event, several different types of programming are planned. There will be skits, violin duets and piano solos, and the LCA musical group Evidence is slated to perform. Featured speaker will be Dr. Larry McCall, pastor at Christ's Covenant Church.
There also will be a presentation of ministry support opportunities, which include tuition assistance, building fund, tuition endowment, building endowment, technology fund, athletic fields and building improvements. LCA's annual fund goal for the year is $300,000, with approximately $42,000 raised so far.
LCA first occupied their new building in 2000 and graduated their first class the same year. The nondenominational Christian school has 204 students in grades seven to 12, from Kosciusko County and beyond. The student-to-teacher ratio is 12-to-one. Forty-five churches are represented in the student body. As a private school, LCA doesn't receive any government dollars.
