Lakeland Christian Academy had another amazing start to their school year.
Right away you could feel the warmth coming from their faculty, staff, families and students. Enrollment is up and with a lot of new students, and you can feel the fresh positive energy.
The first week of school started with what is called “IMPACT Week.” IMPACT is a spiritual retreat in which students and faculty bond spiritually and socially to set the positive Christian family tone for the year.
IMPACT started with LCA’s Parent Teacher Fellowship hosting a breakfast for the students. That was followed by a fun, exciting introduction of the faculty and staff, a la Chicago Bulls intro music and flashing lights. Then LCA’s administrator, Joy Lavender, gave the students a very warm welcome speech that included a prayer time for them.
Mrs. Flores then taught the students the school verse for the year, which is Romans 12:1-2: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Billy Pitts, an LCA alumnus, then led a very moving time of worship music that prepared everyone spiritually for the keynote speaker, Scott Greene, teaching pastor of Sonrise Church in Roanoke. Scott has an amazing gift for teaching teens. He took LCA’s school mission statement, which is “Lakeland Christian provides students with a Christ-centered foundation to become spiritually mature, academically competent, and socially responsible,” and broke each part down into three different sessions, all of which were right on target from a biblical perspective and mixed with personal stories, humor and audience interaction.
The next day the students got to choose three different breakout sessions led by local community leaders. The session were: Right to Life – Encouraging a Culture of Life – Dave Koontz; Advice for the College Transition – Victoria Flores; How to Study the Bible – Dr. Matt Harmon; Creating Your Best School Year Ever – Scott Wiley; Blood of the Martyrs, Seeds of the Church – Jacob Alles; The Biblical Basis for Making Music – Tim Bushong; Would you Date Yourself? – LeeAnn Lavender; From Twinkle Toes to the Master of Disaster – Joe Wilkey; The Story of 1,000 Prayers – Mrs. Ziebarth; Sex is Good – Drew Nieveen.
The day ended with a fun game of swimming pool kickball borrowed from WLGBC.
LCA is starting its 41st year on a positive roll. It is a very blessed school, with high academic standards; a dedicated, compassionate Christian staff that teach all subjects from a Christian worldview; a beautiful 39-acre campus; and a community of parents that are really involved with the school.
LCA is still accepting students and offers financial aid and scholarships.  LCA also accepts the Indiana School Choice Vouchers toward tuition. This allows over 6,000 students in Kosciusko County the opportunity to afford a private Christian education.
