SYRACUSE - Lawrence W. "Lotsie" Gaston, 94, of Lighthouse Point, Fla., died Feb. 18, 2010.

He was born March 8, 1915, in Indianapolis, to Robert and Rose Gaston. In 1935, he married Roberta Maxine Wilcox, who was laid to rest on their 62nd wedding anniversary in 1997. In 2001, he married Deloris Weyler, who died in 2008.

He and Maxine lived in North Webster for many years. He was a retired Indianapolis police officer.

He attended Arsenal Technical High School, Indianapolis, where he and Maxine graduated in the early 1930s. He worked at International Harvester and joined the Indianapolis Police Force in 1945. After his retirement, he worked for the Marion County Sheriff's Department, and he also was a bailiff in Municipal Court, Marion County. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 705, Cromwell, and Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine, Indianapolis. He and Maxine lived for a while in southern Florida but returned to Indianapolis and eventually to North Webster where they lived on Irish and Sechrist lakes before moving to North Webster. They were members of North Webster United Methodist Church.

He and Deloris lived in North Webster, eventually moving to Fort Wayne, where Deloris died. Since that time, he lived with his daughter, Beverly, in Lighthouse Point.

He said he was staying alive to see the Chicago Cubs win the World Series. Unfortunately, we are not sure anyone can live that long. He became a great fan of University of Florida football and followed the Indianapolis Colts.

Surviving are two children, Lawrence W. Jr. (and Susan) Gaston, and Beverly A. Wallace; three grandchildren: Matthew W. (and spouse Patti) Gaston; Stephen B. (and spouse Kris) Gaston; and Meredith Wallace Marcell; and five great-grandchildren: Michael, Katie, Mandy, Noah and Olivia.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Eastlund Funeral Home, 7458 E. CR 1000N, Syracuse. Burial will be in North Webster Cemetery, Mock Addition.

Calling is from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 1:45 p.m.
