AKRON - Lawrence D. "Salty" Overlander, 75, of 304 N. Center St., Akron, died at 7 a.m. April 8, 2010, in his residence

He was born May 31, 1934, in Kosciusko County, to Edward and Katherine Kamp Overlander. On June 5, 1965, in Akron, he married Bonnie Gray, who survives.

He retired from Sonoco Products Co. after more than 35 years of service to the company. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Moose Lodge, Rochester; Akron Lions Club; and Akron United Methodist Church. He always enjoyed fishing out at the lake.

Surviving are two sisters, Carolyn Murphy, Rochester, and Marilyn (and spouse Robert) Cleveland, Peru; three brothers, Bob (and spouse Betty) Kamp, North Manchester; Lewie (and spouse Kathy) Overlander, Akron; and Raymond (and spouse Donna) Overlander, Pennelton; several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Barbara (and spouse Dan) Gaby, Akron. He was preceded in death by his parents, a niece and a nephew.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with the Rev. Phil Pratt officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery, with graveside military rites by members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Rochester.

Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday the funeral home.
