NORTH MANCHESTER - LaVerne C. Montel, 75, of Warsaw, died at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 17, 2008, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

She was born Feb. 28, 1933, in Wabash County, to Blaine F. and Effie Amburg Garber. On July 10, 1964, she married Larry L. Montel, who survives.

She was an O.B. nurse at Wabash County Hospital for 38 years, retiring in 1992. She was a member of Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren and Wabash County Rural Youth for 12 years. She was a 1951 Laketon High School graduate and a 4-H leader of the Monroe-Go-Getters for 25 years, which she founded.

Also surviving are a son, Brent (and spouse Sarah) Montel, Claypool; a daughter, Rhonda (and spouse Brian) Wood, Claypool; a brother, Earl (and spouse Dee) Garber, Meza, Ariz.; two sisters, Wanda Mae (and spouse John) Trout, Fort Pierce, Fla., and Linda Sue Garber, Wabash; a sister-in-law, Barbara "Bickey" Garber, North Manchester; and three grandchildren, Kyle and Kory Wood and Joshua Montel, all of Claypool. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Garber.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren with Pastor Kelly Beutler and the Rev. Opal Nees officiating. Burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
