AKRON – Larry L. Wood, 73, of  3752 S. CR 1000E, Akron, died unexpectedly at 8:42 p.m. April 3, 2011, in the emergency room at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester. 
He was born June 17, 1937, in Fulton County, to Albert A. and Ruth K. Westwood Wood. On Oct. 1, 1988, in Gatlinburg, Tenn., he married Ethel M. Hoover, who survives. He was previously married to Janet C. Hammond.
He was a machinist at Sonoco Products, Akron, where he worked for 45 years, retiring in 2001. He was a U.S. Army veteran where he was stationed in Germany as a medic. He was a lifetime member of the North American Hunting Club. He looked forward to his bi-annual fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada with his local fishing buddies. He was a 1956 graduate of Rochester High School, where he excelled in football and track. He was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed raising beef cattle.
Also surviving are two daughters, Angela Wood Bailey, Fort Wayne, and Star A. Powell, stationed with the Marines in South Carolina; a son, Andrew (and spouse Heidi) Wood, Bloomington; two stepdaughters, Lesa Patterson, Indianapolis, and Rochelle Powell, Akron; five grandchildren: Hillary, Olivia, Elise, Isaiah and Thomas; six step-grandchildren: Cameo, Desiree, Marcia, Chris, Rosio and Zion; a brother, Fred (and spouse Betty) Wood, Rochester; two sisters, Lois (and spouse David) Williams and Joan Ginther, all of Rochester; a brother-in-law, Sid (and spouse Judy) Hoover, Missouri; and his beloved canine companion,  Lucky. He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepdaughter, Dawn Powell; and a brother-in-law, Verl Ginther.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Terry Canfield officiating. Burial will be in  Akron Cemetery, with graveside military rites by members of the LeRoy Shelton American Legion Post 36 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1343 Honor Guard of Rochester.
Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
