On Aug. 3, 1937, he was born in Warsaw to DeWitt C. and Helen L. Firestone Mellott. On June 20, 2008, in Warsaw, he was united in marriage to Geneal Sponseller Heagy, who survives in Warsaw.
A lifetime resident of Warsaw, he worked as a youth for the Times-Union as a newspaper carrier and later worked for Ramsey News Stand. He then worked for Thornburg Drugs for 27 years.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw, where he sang in the choir. He graduated from Warsaw High School with the Class of 1955. He was an organizer for all of the class reunions with help. He was a member of the Model T Club and “Mayberry” Monday Night Garage Club. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid hunter and became the adopted son of the Bill Robinson Family in Kaycee, Wyo., for 18 years.
Also surviving are six cousins: Karen Bradt, Susan (and spouse Red) Wiggins, and John Firestone, all of Warsaw; Bob (and spouse Linda) Firestone, Sebring, Fla.; Ray (and spouse Fran) Grau, Walbridge, Ohio; Maurine Reynolds, Toledo, Ohio; two stepchildren, Nanette (and spouse Lester) Pierce and Hal (and spouse Geri) Heagy, all of Warsaw; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, “Tucker.” He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepdaughter, Jalaine Brumfield.
Services will be at noon Saturday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor Dave Hummel officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is two hours prior to services Saturday at the funeral chapel.
