MENTONE – Larry D. Pyle, 78, of 8689 W. Ind. 25, Mentone, died at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 2, 2013, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw.
He was born Nov. 26, 1934, in Danville, Ill., to William Ernest and Zula F. French Pyle. He was married to Ruth Jo Fields who preceded him in death in 1964. On Sept. 30, 1967, in Mentone, he married Sue Ann Borton, who survives.
He was a farmer, and he also worked his way to an officer’s position at Farmers State Bank of Mentone, retiring in 1999.
He was a Waynetown High School graduate in 1953, and a 1957 graduate of Purdue with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He was a member of the Mentone United Methodist Church, a former Mentone Lions member, the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite of Fort Wayne, Fort Wayne Mizpah Shrine Bagpipers, and he received the Kosciusko Soil and Water District-Intensive Grazing Award. He also volunteered in the initial class of EMTs for the Mentone Four-Way Ambulance Service, serving from 1976 to 1982. He loved to study world economics.
Also surviving are a daughter, Lou Ann (and spouse David) Guilford, Lafayette; two sons: Kevin (and spouse Janet) Pyle, Akron; and Brian (and spouse Melissa) Pyle, Mentone; a sister, Cynthia Howell, Crown Point; four granddaughters: Jennifer, Liz, Melissa and Addison Pyle; and five grandsons: Corey (and spouse Hannah) Guilford, Adric Pyle, Cody Guilford, Damon Pyle and Maverick Pyle. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Sue Witham.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with the Rev. Amber Karkosky-Litten officiating. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery.
Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
