He was born Jan. 11, 1937, in Warsaw, to Donald and Alta Hemminger Paxton.
He retired from Biomet, Warsaw, where he was a polisher. He was an Etna Green High School graduate and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was an avid fisherman in Okeechobee. He was a member of Bourbon American Legion Post 424; Veterans of Foreign Wars and Eagles Lodge 852, both in Rochester; and Moose Lodge, Warsaw. He attended First Methodist Church, Okeechobee.
Surviving are two daughters, Lori (and spouse Chalmer) Campbell, Akron, and Lisa (and spouse Mark) Nifong, Plymouth; a son, Dayton A. Paxton, Claypool; and three grandchildren: Travis (and spouse Sally) Campbell, Corey Campbell and Morgen Nifong. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Donna Groshuns.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastor Terry Canfield officiating. Burial will be in Etna Green Cemetery with graveside military rites by members of Bourbon American Legion Post 424.
Calling is from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
