Syracuse - Larry A. DeWitt, 75, of Syracuse, died at 3:15 a.m. Jan. 11, 2010, in Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.

He was born Aug. 2, 1934, in Corunna, to Merton and Margaret L. Dawson DeWitt.

He attended DeKalb County Public Schools and graduated from Waterloo-Grant Township High School in 1952 and Tri State College, Angola, in 1960. He was a U.S. Army veteran and moved to Syracuse from Goshen in 1970. He retired in 1997 as a civil engineer with Rieth-Riley Construction Co., Goshen, after 40 years of service. He was a member of North Webster American Legion Post 253; Veterans of Foreign Wars 985, Goshen; Eagles Lodge 3760, Syracuse; Tyrian Masonic Lodge 718, Goshen; and was a Shriner.

Surviving are a daughter, Marti (and spouse Terry) Likens, North Webster; two sons, Mark (and spouse Jill) DeWitt, New Paris, and Mike DeWitt, Syracuse; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Myrna (and spouse Charles) Smith, Indianapolis; and a brother, Donald (and spouse Cindy) DeWitt, Columbus, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter and a brother.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Fred Clark officiating, and with military rites by members of North Webster American Legion. Burial will be private at a later date in Corunna Cemetery.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
