PLYMOUTH - Though he was saddled with a knee injury during his team's state tournament run, Wawasee High School senior Kory Lantz appeared healthy in Sunday's 17th annual North-South Indiana All-Star Classic high school basketball game at Plymouth.
Lantz, a four-year varsity starter for coach Phil Mishler's Warriors, who won the school's first-ever regional crown this year, was perfect from the field and free throw line as the North All-Stars beat their southern counterparts 123-114 in the boys game. In the girls game, the South All-Stars dominated their northern counterparts and picked up a 92-71 win.
Lantz, who will play college hoops for Mike Lightfoot and the Bethel Pilots, was 3 of 3 from the field, with all of his shots coming behind the three-point line, and was 4 of 4 from the free throw line.
Two area players participated in the girls game, with both Tippecanoe Valley senior Kara Kramer and Warsaw Community High School senior Rebekah Reichard scoring four points each.
In the girls game, the South All-Stars raced out to a 16-5 lead and never looked back.
The North All-Stars did cut the deficit to six, 70-64, when Miss Basketball Jodi Howell hit a three-pointer with 7:30 left in the second 20-minute half, but the South All-Stars responded with a 13-2 run to put the game away.
Hamilton Southeastern's Kahla Roudeboush led the South All-Stars with a game-high 13 points, while Dana Beaven (Corydon Central), Angela Willis (Richmond) and Tara Miller (North Harrison) scored nine points each.
Howell, who averaged 28.7 points per game this year for Alexandria en route to being named Miss Basketball, led the North All-Stars with 11 points, while South Bend Riley's Kendra Reynolds, Marion's Tanika Mays and South Bend St. Joe's Aimee Litka scored eight points each.
In the boys game, the contest was more competitive and featured some hot-handed three-point shooters and some dazzling dunks and passes from 5-foot-11 Richmond High School standout Dominic James, who finished second in voting to Washington's Luke Zeller for this year's Mr. Basketball award and who will play collegiately at Marquette.
Merrillville standout Josh Mayo hit five three-pointers and paced the North All-Stars with 24 points in the 124-113 win, while Elkhart Central's Derek Drews scored 17 and Mishawaka's Antonio Dye, 14 ,and Lantz, 13.
Indianapolis Arlington's Deonta Vaugh, who will play next year at Indiana University, led the South All-Stars with 26 points, while Lawrence North's Brandon McPherson, Evansville Reitz' Darren Cloud, Monrovia's Adam Gore and James scored 15 points each. [[In-content Ad]]
