Tuesday night in Lancer Gymnasium, the Grace College men's basketball team used opportunities to snap a 12-game losing streak. The Lancers avenged a 14-point loss to Goshen earlier this year by defeating the Maple Leafs 96-54.

Because the Lancers' leading scorer, Ryan Bricker, played few minutes with a stomach virus that held him out of the previous two games, Shannon Brown was given a rare starting role. Brown responded with seven points, seven rebounds and three assists and made the most of his opportunity.

With the lineup shuffled, Jeremy Swanson had the opportunity to garner extra minutes. He responded by making 6-of-6 field goals in the first half, including a three-pointer, for 14 points in the opening 20 minutes.

Ben Tonagel also had opportunities, but his were from behind the three-point line. Tonagel knocked down his first seven three-point attempts and ended with a game-high 25 points and five rebounds. It may have been his best game of the year as he has battled hand and wrist injuries all season that have kept him from having these types of games.

Those players helped propel the Lancers to a 51-27 halftime lead and they never looked back. Grace outscored Goshen 45-27 in the second half to dominate the scoreboard. The Lancers also crushed the Maple Leafs on the boards, outrebounding Goshen 48-22.

Bricker, Swanson and Tonagel weren't the only Lancers who produced Tuesday night. Point guard Matt Moore finished the game with eight points and 12 assists and Lawrence Burnett scored 12 points and finished with five rebounds. Dan Scharlach also tossed in 12 points, all in the first half. In all, the Lancers shot 65 percent from the floor, while holding Goshen to 33 percent.

Grace (10-21, 1-12 MCC) will play at No. 1 St. Francis Saturday in the Lancers final regular season game. St. Francis moved up a spot to No. 1 in the NAIA rankings this week and defeated No. 4 Huntington Tuesday night to clinch the MCC regular season championship. If the Lancers pull the upset Saturday, they would be the No. 7 seed and would play at Huntington Wednesday night in the first round of the MCC Tournament. If Grace loses, the team would play at St. Francis in back-to-back games. Goshen falls to 11-18 overall and 2-11 in the MCC.
