Lancer Volleyball Gets Past Tri-State

At Angola, after Grace College's volleyball team won the first two games, the Lancers dropped the following two but still held on to win 3-2 in five games.

Grace won 15-10, 15-8, 15-17, 14-16, 15-13.

Kelli Irish and Kate Millen led the Lancer attack with 16 kills each. Irish also led the defense by chipping in 16 blocks and 20 digs. Melissa Rants added 12 digs and contributed 55 assists to help carry Grace's offense.

Grace is 6-1.

Grace 3, St. Francis 0

The Grace College Lancers came out on top of an aggressive 90 minute battle as they held conference rival St. Francis scoreless on Tuesday night at Miller Field.

The Lancers scored all three goals in the first half. After 30 minutes of scoreless action, the Lancers' Jacob Bury scored the first Lancer goal on an assist from Luke Fields.

Five minutes later, Rob Beswetherick scored on a penalty kick, then, with just under four minutes remaining before the half, Eric Frenchak scored unassisted on a corner kick that hooked into the St. Francis goal. It was all the Lancers would need as the defense shut down the Cougars the entire second half.

"This was a great way to start our conference season," said Grace Coach Steve Miller. "Our aggressiveness won many balls today and gave us many opportunities. We shot a lot and followed up well."

"We had a game plan, and played it well. Then, our subs did a great job to hold St. Francis scoreless at the end of the game."

The Lancers outshot St. Francis 33 to 18.

The Lancers improved their season record to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the Mid Central Conference. St. Francis fell to 1-2. The Lancers will travel to Greenville IL this weekend.

Theresa Brough scored three goals to lead the St. Francis Lady Cougars past Grace College 7-2 Tuesday afternoon.

St. Francis went up 1-0 five minutes into the game and never trailed. They were up 3-1 at the half on two of Brough's tallies and then added four more in the second half for the victory. Stacy Dudash scored twice for St. Francis.

Kim Abshagen and Eve Arthur scored for Grace.

The Lady Lancers dropped to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the MCC.

St. Francis improved to 3-0. Grace will travel to Olivet Nazarene Thursday at 4:00 p.m.

Manchester College Over Adrian College

At North Manchester, Sarah May had 20 kills as Manchester College defeated Adrian College on Tuesday.

Lisa Brost added 11 kills and two blocks and Abby Hendricks had 45 assists and five aces in the win. Manchester (4-2) will be at the Olivet College Tournament in Michigan on Saturday. [[In-content Ad]]
