MISHAWAKA – Grace College’s men’s tennis team maintained its unblemished Crossroads League record with a 9-0 win on the road against Bethel on Wednesday.
The Lancers (4-1; 4-0 CL) have four league matches remaining in their quest to defend last year’s Crossroads League regular season co-championship.
So far in Crossroads League competition, Grace has amassed an incredible court record of 35-1 through four matches.
With senior Aaron Blevins missing action with injury, a trio of freshmen stepped up for the Lancers. Freshman David Driscoll paired up with Ethan Grove at No. 3 doubles to win 8-1, and Jacob Stump at No. 3 singles and Gabe Vervynckt at No. 6 singles picked up league wins in their freshman campaigns as well.
Daniel Sanchez and Jose Marval recorded a perfect 8-0 win at the top doubles’ position, and Michael Humphrey and Jack Wang teamed up for an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles.
“It was good to see the team pick up the slack with Aaron [Blevins] needing rest,” said Grace head coach Larry Schuh. “Gabe did a great job and six singles, and David played very well at three doubles. This was a good solid team win while missing one of our main players.”
Dating back to last season, Grace has won its past nine regular-season league matches. The Lancers will aim for their 10th straight league win on Thursday when they host Taylor at 4 p.m. at Miller Field.[[In-content Ad]]
