SYRACUSE - Lakeside Fitness will start free Monthly Wellness Classes in Syracuse focusing on balance in your life.

The first of these classes will be June 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. and will feature two guest speakers, Dr. Steve Negent and Dan "The Beast" Severn. The two will speak on healthy living and how to incorporate healthier choices to create a better quality of life.[[In-content Ad]]Negent is a graduate of the University of Michigan and holds three doctorates. He formerly served as the president of the American Naturopathic Medical Association, but now teaches continuing medical education for doctors in glycobiology.

Severn is a former WWE superstar and the only Triple Crown UFC champion in the sport today. He will share the health approach that helps him continue fighting at 50 years of age.

Thursday's lecture is part of a community service project. Lakeside Fitness is following a Center for Disease Control recommendation to spread the word on healthy living.

Katherine Kipling, one of the promoters for the event, said the business would be "taking a one-year commitment and hopefully the community will embrace it."

Other subjects that will be covered in the Monthly Wellness Classes will include topics such as why lose fat, are sweeteners good for you, foods that promote health and prevent disease, the need for water, the importance of sleep, movement and exercise, reading labels, toxins in your home, glycemic indexing and more.

Lakeside Fitness hopes to invite health professionals from the community as guest speakers for future lectures. Kipling said, "Lakeside's goal is to reach out and create a healthy community."

The business opened in 2005, but the owners, Resia Rinker and Justin Frericks, have been promoting wellness for more than 25 years. Providing these free lectures to the community is their way of being part of the solution to America's health care crisis. They believe, "Education is the key-empower people with information so they can take control of their own health."

Seating is limited for these free lectures, so pre-registration is encouraged. There are 200 seats available, but more than 70 are already taken for this coming lecture. Take a step toward better living and pre-register by calling 574-457-8562 or e-mail [email protected]

Kipling wants to involve as many people as possible.

"What a blessing for our community to have Dr. Nugent and Dan Severn share their insight and commitment to help you change your quality of life. Choose to become a part of this powerful movement of wellness," Kipling said.
