Lakeland Quilt Club Meets

It was revealed that lap quilts for Warsaw Meadows are still being sewn by club members, and that Suze Wilt had recently made bed pads for the animal shelter with the club’s scrap and discarded fabric.
Juanita Robinett was recognized for her work designing and producing information bookmarks to be distributed within the community to promote Lakeland Quilt Club.
Members were reminded of the Annual Cookie Tour today and Saturday at Lowery Sewing Center, Warsaw, and Heaven on Earth and Nancy J’s Fabrics, Wabash.
Linda Greene was thanked for her soup served at the October Sew Day. Krisce Myers volunteered to provide the main course for the carry-in lunch at the Nov. 24 sew day when Linda Felger will demonstrate, and members will make, receiving blankets for Heartline Pregnancy Center. Members were given a list of supplies and measurements needed for this project.
Beckie Hansen and Shelly Gilliland reported on the “Seaside Quilts” book signing held Nov. 3 at the North Webster Library. Hansen co-authored the book and displayed several quilts featured in the book at the event.
The club will celebrate the holiday season with a luncheon at its annual Christmas Party Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. at the township hall. There will be no business meeting at this function. In lieu of a gift exchange, members will bring a food and/or hygiene items for the local food pantry.
Sanner shared a quilting “Tip of the Day” about cutting borders for quilts. To prevent rippling and to make a border stronger, if possible cut with the lengthwise grain of fabric.
Before adjournment, several members participated in the “Show and Tell” portion of the meeting. Laura Greig showed a quilt made for her son’s upcoming wedding from the pattern “Rings of Gold” and burp cloths for a new baby. Hansen shared an applique border in process and Felger shared her crocheted neck scarves and a Linus quilt. Greene brought her completed “Vine and Roses” quilt. Janet Anderson showed a white trapunto wall-hanging. Gilliland shared a heart patterned quilt, a two-color contemporary strip quilt, a charm pack quilt and a basketball floor panel and bordered quilt top. Marge Lord showed Elvis placemats made for her daughter. Maryann Engle reported making 35 Christmas ornaments now in process. Margo Ames showed items made by a friend from Italy with whom she and Sanner recently had the privilege of quilting.
Lakeland Quilt Club meets twice a month on the second and fourth Mondays at 10 a.m. at Tippecanoe Township Hall. Members share ideas, learn from one another and give back to the community through their talents. The first meeting of the month consists of a business meeting with the second meeting designated as a Sew Day with demonstrations or speakers and a food carry–in. New members and guests are always welcome.
