Lady Warriors Sink Northridge Swimmers

The 19th-ranked Wawasee girls swim team took a big step in halting Northridge’s 12-year reign atop the Northern Lakes Conference Monday night.
Hosting the Northridge Lady Raiders, the Wawasee Lady Warriors posted a 105-81 victory, finishing the NLC regular season at 7-0 and improving to 9-0 overall.
Wawasee will have its chance to claim the conference crown outright this week at the NLC Championships, which begins with the prelims Thursday at Concord, followed by the finals Saturday.
If Northridge wins the championships and Wawasee finishes second, the crown would be split.
In the NLC regular season finale, Paige Miller and Breanna Robinson were once again leaders of the Lady Warriors’ charge, being a part of four victories.
Miller won the 200 free (1:57.94) and 500 free (5:10.30) and Robinson finished first in the 200 IM (2:07.28) and 100 fly (55.36).
The pair then joined forces to win the 200 free relay (1:44.32) with Kendra Miller and Shelby Adams, then closed the meet by joining Kendra Miller and Kayla Hershberger on the victorious 400 free relay (3:41.41).
Kendra Miller also won the 50 free (26.49) and Hershberger was first in the 100 back (1:04.11).

Closing its Northern Lakes Conference regular season schedule out at home against No. 7 Northridge Monday, the Wawasee boys swim team lost 149-37. Failing to win an event, Wawasee’s top finish was in the 200 free, as Logan Brugh was second in a time of 1:48.83, just 43-hundredths of a second behind Seth Cripe’s 1:48.41 first-place time. Adding to the difficulties for the Warriors in the meet was the loss of Zac Hershberger, who left the meet before it began for medical reasons. Wawasee is off until the NLC Championships begin with the prelims round on Jan. 30 at Northridge.
