Lady Warriors Lead Roundup With NLC Prelims Performance

DUNLAP — Having already wrapped up the top regular season Northern Lakes Conference record at 7-0, the 19th-ranked Wawasee girls swim team stayed strong in the preliminary round of the NLC Championships at Concord Thursday night.
Thanks to their regular season record, the Wawasee Lady Warriors already have a leg up on 12-time defending NLC champion Northridge, and will look to secure the title during the finals Saturday, back at Concord.
In the prelims, Wawasee advanced to the championship round of the finals in every event, putting at least two swimmers in each as well.
Among the top events for the Lady Warriors were the 200 IM, where freshmen Paige Miller and Shelby Adams were second and fourth, respectively, and in the 500 free, Miller was second and junior Anna Park was fourth.
In the 100 fly, junior Breanna Robinson finished first, just as she did in the 200 free, while sophomore Mikala Mawhorter was fourth.
Wawasee relay teams also finished first in two events (200 free, 400 free) and second in the 200 medley.
For Warsaw, it will be represented by one swimmer each in five events, as freshman Brenna Morgan was first in the 50 free and 100 free.
In Saturday’s championship meet, the top eight swimmers from the prelims will swim in the championship heat, while the 9-16 prelim finishers will compete in the consolation heat.
Diving prelims begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, with the swimming getting started at 1 p.m.

ATWOOD – The congregation at Atwood Otterbein Church will celebrate the 98th anniversary of the building of their church at 306 E. Main St., Atwood, on Sunday at their 9:30 a.m. service. The congregation celebrates its Heritage Day each May.
