'Kosciuszko' Announces New Board, Event

Dawn Stiles was elected as the new president, replacing retiring president Jim Smelser. Smelser had been involved in Back to the Days for more than 10 years. Stiles has been involved in Back to the Days for several years.
Roy Bradbury was reelected as vice president and Jim Ellison was reelected as treasurer. Joe Sands of Sands Office Equipment was elected secretary.
Matt Gillis and David Taylor were reelected as board members. Taylor helped found Back to the Days of Kosciuszko in 1989 with the help of Tammy Denlinger, the late Steve Hassinger and the Council on Aging.
With new officers and board members, Back to the Days hopes to expand the organization, its Red Brush Village and add new events.[[In-content Ad]]The first new event added for this year is Red Brush Civil War Days, May 2-3. The event will be at Red Brush Village on the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds. Reenactors from the 44th Indiana Civil War unit will be on hand to demonstrate life as a Civil War soldier. Vendors of food and wares also will be present to round out the experience.
Back to the Days is working closely with the fair board to develop the village into a living history destination. Plans are in the works for more additions to the village.
First on the slate is another log house that will be used as a schoolhouse. Construction should begin as soon as the weather breaks this spring.
A windmill also is being planned by Eagle Scout candidate Preston Brandon from Boy Scout Troop 730, Warsaw.
Plans also are being discussed for a stage area on the hill to be used for both Living History and fair events.
