July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
By Staff Report-
Classes in youth development will include sports classes for preschoolers, swim lessons, dance and gymnastics classes for all ages.
Classes that promote the healthy living aspect of the YMCA will include group exercise classes at both the Smith Street and North Webster branches, classes for older adults and water aerobics.
Several of the YMCA’s group exercise classes are family focused, and parents are encouraged to bring their children ages 8 and up.
The majority of group exercise and water aerobics classes are now included with a YMCA membership. Registration for YMCA members starts Feb. 6. For the rest of the community, registration starts Feb. 13. Register at the YMCA or online at www.kcymca.org
Kids’ Night Out will be Feb. 4 and March 3 from 6 to 10 p.m.
Kids get an evening out for fun and they’ll get to climb the wall, swim, play games and create a craft.
In February, the YMCA will start a running club, a 13-week program to help participants train for their first half marathon.
Visit www.kcymca.org for a registration form for both of these events.
New this winter, the YMCA will offer an adult beginner Spanish class. This course will be a basic course offering introductory Spanish for adults. Participants will learn to listen, speak, read and write using music, stories and conversation.
The class will benefit those who may use the Spanish language on mission trips, in the classroom with Spanish-speaking families, or for use in basic interaction with customers or co-workers who may speak Spanish.
Registration is going on now for the Spanish class, which will start Feb. 16 and take place at the YMCA on Thursdays until March 29, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The class will then progress into a second class in the spring for those who want to continue learning.
The YMCA also will start “Let's Get Technical,” a class offering basic instruction on a set topic related to technology twice a month.
Open to anyone of any age who needs some assistance, the class will start in March with classes continuing the first and third Monday of each month from 9 to 10 a.m. and 2 to 3 p.m. The first class on March 5 will feature Facebook.[[In-content Ad]]
