This is not a letter from Jack, this time it is a letter about Jack.
Jack W. Klinefelter left us unexpectedly on Aug. 9 of this year. It is hard to say how many letters to the editor we wrote, but it was a passion of his to let everyone know how he felt about issues he felt strongly about and his support of the United States of America.
Here is a glimpse of Jack’s life. Jack never finished high school. Being raised by a single mother, it was called survival. He started work at age 14 as a ticket taker at the Emboyd Theater, known today as The Embassy Theater in Fort Wayne. His first job was at the International Harvester for six years, Weather Head (as a computer programmer) for 26 years, Ace Hardware four years, Classic Car Center and Managed American Home Center, where he retired in 1998 after 11 years with them. The majority of his career was programming or managing hardware and lumber yard businesses. Also included was the refurbishing of several homes, and the last one their retirement home.
When Jack moved to Warsaw in 1968, he jumped right in and started up the Warsaw Little League. He urged the fathers to participate and said their sons will experience the joy of winning and patting each other on the back, win or lose. Jack was involved in the Optimist-sponsored canoe trips to Canada. On several trips they took eight to 10 boys from the Riverwood Ranch. Another office he took was vice president of the Rifle and Pistol Gun Club, making sure it was up and running. From 1966 to 1971 he was a member of the North South Skirmish Association, competing in black powder musket target shooting.
Jack loved his family, church, woodworking, yard work, fishing and was an avid reader. He could talk or discuss any subject with anyone, including and especially the editor of the paper!
Missing you, Jack, your loving family,
