John and Marjorie Knecht, North Manchester, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary May 25, 2013.  
John and the former Marjorie Hill were married May 30, 1943, at United Brethren Church, Hartford City.
Marjorie is the daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. S.M. Hill, and lived in Mentone, where her parents had retired.  John is the son of the late Ervin and Mabel Burgess Knecht and lived in Hartford City, until he left for college.  They met at Indiana Central College, graduating in 1942.  Later they studied at Yale University for two years in preparation for mission work in China.
Marjorie retired from the Dayton Public School District after teaching English and Latin at Dunbar High School for 14 years, retiring in 1982.
John served as president of United Theological Seminary, Dayton, for 20 years, retiring in 1985.
They have four children, Catherine, Mark, Luke and Matthew; and eight grandchildren.
The couple celebrated their anniversary with a tea hosted by family members at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.
