HUNTINGTON -ÊGoing into Friday's basketball game against Huntington North, Warsaw knew Sean Kline would be a handful. He proved them right when he started the varsity contest off with not just one dunk, but two in the first 48 seconds of play.

Kline continued to be a thorn in the Tigers' side as he scored 29 points and led the Vikings to a 73-64 victory over the Warsaw squad.

After Kline scored the first four points on slam dunks, he netted a three-pointer to put the Vikings up 7-0.

The Huntington North squad held the Tigers scoreless until the 4:24 mark when Ross Kesler put Warsaw on the board.

In the last four minutes of the first frame, Warsaw #outscored Huntington North 15-8 to make the score 18-17 in the Viking's favor as the second stanza began.

With 7:14 left in the second quarter, Ross Kesler nailed a two-point basket to give the Tigers their first lead of the game, 19-18.

Warsaw held a slim lead for the next five minutes until the 2:01 mark, when Rick Hall hit a two-point goal to give the lead back to Huntington North, 26-25.

The Vikings did not look back for the last two minutes as they built a 34-26 lead by the end of the half.

In the first half, Huntington North held Warsaw's post players to just two points. Chris Wiggins and Ross Kesler scored all but three of Warsaw's first-half points, scoring 12 and 11 respectively.

Kline led the Vikings with 14 points in the first 16 minutes of play.

"We started the game down 10-0," said Warsaw coach Al Rhodes, "but we did some good things and caught back up.

"There was a stretch in the second quarter when we lost our composure and they were able to mount an eight-point lead at the half."

Kline scored the first basket of the half with 7:01 left in the third stanza as Huntington North regained its 10-point lead, but that would be the last time the Vikings would score for the next three-and-a-half minutes.

In that 3:30, Warsaw went on an 11-0 run and took a 37-36 lead over Huntington North.

The lead then see-sawed back and forth for the next four minutes with Warsaw taking a 46-44 lead into the fourth quarter as Zach Nelson nailed a basket with four seconds left in the third.

"We came back and had a good end of the second quarter and an excellent third quarter of play," said Rhodes. "(Steve) Siebenmorgen had a much better third quarter, and Nelson had an excellent third."

The Tigers held their lead for the first 2:20 of the fourth, but Hall sank a two-pointer with 5:40 left in regulation to give the Vikings a lead they would not relinquish for the remainder of the contest.

Huntington North then went on a 21-13 run in the final minutes of the game to earn a 73-64 victory over the Tigers.

"I felt that we made the plays we needed to make tonight," said Huntington North coach Eric Foister.

"Kline and Hall took over the game and gave them the lead with three minutes left to play," said Rhodes. "Then they held the ball, and we basically used the last two minutes of the game to practice late game situations."

Kline finished the game with 29 points, while Hall ended with 22.

"Rick Hall is a competitor," said Foister. "The thing that separates him from other kids is the fact that he does not know how to lose. He refuses to lose, and he showed that tonight."

"This was a huge game," said Hall. "Every year this is our hardest week of practice because Warsaw is one of our biggest rivals. It's always a good game when Huntington and Warsaw play."

Wiggins led the Tigers with 25 points, while Nelson and Ross Kesler added 13 points each in the Tiger effort.

"We played poorly in the first half," said Rhodes. "The second quarter we played well, but the Huntington kids stepped up.

"We are a good team, but they were a great team tonight becuase they were mentally tougher than we were."

"We have been everywhere the past couple weeks, and we learned a lot," said Foister. "We showed those things we learned out there tonight."
