SYRACUSE - When junior Jordan Kistler wasn't frustrating the Wawasee Warriors from the mound Tuesday afternoon, he was doing it from the plate.

[[In-content Ad]]Kister threw a complete game two-hitter and drove in four runs as his Warsaw Tigers topped Wawasee 9-0 in Northern Lakes Conference baseball action.

It was the conference opener for both teams.

Kistler carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning before Wawasee left fielder Dan Dingledein put his bat on a ball that squirted just past Kistler but stayed in the infield for a single.

Only a few balls made it out of the infield against Kistler.

Warsaw jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first two innings and never looked back.

Kistler hit a two-run double in the second inning as Warsaw scored four in the second. The Tigers added two in the sixth and one in the seventh.

The talented junior was nearly untouchable, but when he did get hit, the Warsaw defense was there for him.

Wawasee hit into two double plays and Warsaw's Derek Freds made perhaps the play of the game when Wawasee's Jake Sommers snuck a ball past Tiger first baseman Hans Sale into shallow right field.

Freds hustled to the ball as it died in the tall outfield grass, scooped the ball up and threw out Sommers by a step.

"We had some really nice plays but we still need to sure (our defense) up," said Warsaw coach Mike Hepler. "Jordan Kistler threw great today. He got some ground balls and our defense helped him out."

"It's really nice to watch him play," said Hepler of Kistler. "And when you're behind him and he's in a groove like that it keeps the defense in the game."

Wawasee seemed to figure out Kistler in their second at-bats but failed to get any solid hits off of him.

The bottom of Warsaw's order posed problems for Wawasee's pitchers.

The Warriors started Tyson Searforss, who lasted just 1-1/3 innings and gave up five runs, all earned, two hits and two walks.

Searfoss did earn a strikeout.

Searfoss struggled with location and got behind Warsaw hitters early and often.

"It's just one of those things where if you get down to a hitter 3-1 against a team like Warsaw it doesn't matter where you're at in the order, you have guys who can drive in runs," said Wawasee coach Jeff Phillips, a 1999 Warsaw grad who played baseball for the Tigers.

Kistler finished with four RBI and two doubles but the 7-8-9 hitters for Warsaw also had some success.

Left fielder Tommy Reinholt went 1 for 3 with a double and right fielder Jeff Himes went 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Wawasee's two hits came from Dan Dingledein and Steve Hoover.

Hoover came on in relief for Searfoss and went 4-2/3 innings, giving up three earned runs and six hits while striking out two.

Wawasee, 3-2 and 0-1 in the NLC, hosts Elkhart Memorial today at 5 p.m.

Warsaw, 4-1 and 1-0 in the NLC, hosts Goshen today at 5 p.m.
