That’s the premise behind “Kids Say the Darndest Things,” Warsaw Community High School Select Theatre Class’s musical this weekend.
According to Dramatic Publishing’s website, “It is based on the hilarious best-selling book ‘Kids Say the Darndest Things’ by Art Linkletter, inspired by the TV show ‘House Party,’ which ran 26 years, hosted by Mr. Linkletter.”
Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the high school’s Black Box Theatre. Tickets are $5 at the door.
Director Dana McAfee said the “kids” in the show talk about a variety of subjects from school to table manners.
“It’s really cute and fun. We’ve never done a musical for this before. It’s definitely family friendly and fun,” she said.
Each spring, the Select Theatre puts on a production to benefit a local charity. For this year’s show, all proceeds benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates.
According to its website, “CASA of Kosciusko County is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which advocates for the best interest of abused and neglected children who are entangled in the Kosciusko County court system by recruiting, training and supporting volunteers to serve as court-appointed special advocates.
“CASA is central to fulfilling society’s most fundamental obligation by making sure a qualified, compassionate adult will advocate for and protect a child’s right to be safe, to be treated with dignity and respect, and to thrive and succeed in the security of a loving family. We believe that all children deserve the right to grow up in a safe and nurturing home.”
The book and lyrics for “Kids Say the Darndest Things” was written by Robert Johanson. Music and lyrics are by Albert Evans.
The WCHS cast (in order of appearance) include: Christine Trier as the host; Jonathan Warner as Donald; Margot Rheinhardt as Megan; Kahler Snow as Jimmie; Kathy Frazzetta as Susie; Lucas Thomas as David; Tara Rusinack as Lindsay; Lacey Lisenbee as Bobbie; Casey Helser as Alice; Derek Grose as Adam; Nikos Schlitt as Kelsey; Amanda Pilz as Barbie; and Kirstin Davis as Maryanne.
Crew members include John Lacheta on lights and sound; Cailin Clay, spotlight; Caleb Vogel, pianist; and Gianna Burkholder, Nicholas DiVaccaro, Korah Gillard and Wyatt Slone, ushers.
