Kentucky Fugitive Caught Here

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

A man on the run from Kentucky officials was caught in Kosciusko County Tuesday.

On July 23, Benjamin "Benji" Sammons, 23, of Floyd County, Ky., escaped from a jailer at the Floyd County Sheriff's Department while being transported to Highlands Regional Medical Center in Kentucky.

Sammons was being held at the jail on three charges of theft, fleeing and evading and resisting arrest. Floyd County Sheriff John K. Blackburn has been in contact with the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department to extradite Sammons back to Kentucky.

Saturday evening, the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department was informed that Sammons could be at family member's residence at 6390 E. CR 400S, Pierceton. At that time, officers went to the house, but Sammons fled before they arrived. Officers searched for Sammons, but were unable to find him.

On Tuesday, officers received a tip that Sammons had returned to the residence. Kosciusko County Sheriff's Deputies and Indiana State Police Troopers surrounded the area around the house. When they entered the residence, they found Sammons sleeping on a couch. Sammons was taken into custody without incident and currently is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail while awaiting extradition to Kentucky.
