He was born Jan. 17, 1926, in Nappanee, to John and Dorothy Mabel Ganger Mitschelen. On Aug. 9, 1957, in Middlebury, he married Norma R. Hartman, who survives.
A lifetime Nappanee and Goshen area resident, he was a retired truck driver, having driven for Mutschler Brothers, Daily Express, Carlisle, Pa.; TMX, Fort Wayne; and Hoosier Transport, Milford. He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corp veteran, serving as a plane refueler. He was a member of Teamsters 264.
Also surviving are a daughter, Dixie (and spouse Max) Shrock, Goshen; a son, Chuck (and spouse Darcey) Mitschelen, Nappanee; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Edwin (and spouse Arlene) Mitschelen, Edinburg, Texas; and a sister, Doris (and spouse James) Yoder, Newton, Kan. He was preceded in death by a son, two brothers and a sister.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, with the Rev. Janet McFall-Brown officiating. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery with military graveside services by members of Nappanee American Legion.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
