He was born July 25, 1921, in Larwill, to George Fredrick and Beatrice Juanita Keisler Smith. On Oct. 31, 1942, in Paris, Texas, he married Helen Eloise Tuttle, who survives.
He lived most of his adult life in Kosciusko County. After retiring from R.R. Donnelley in 1984, he spent the next 21 years wintering in Apache Junction, Ariz. Before working for R.R. Donnelley, he was a truck driver, worked in construction and also worked for the Kosciusko County Highway Dept. He was active in Golden Vista Chapel, Apache Junction, for several years. He also was a member of American Legion Post 253, North Webster. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942-43.
Also surviving are a daughter, Marcia Kay (and spouse Steve) Randolph, Warsaw; three sons: Phil Kent (and spouse Kim) Smith, Leesburg; and Ronald C. (and spouse Toni) Smith, Indianapolis; and Stanley R. Smith, Mesquite, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
A memorial service will be at noon Saturday at American Legion Post 253, North Webster, with Chaplain Bob Jarboe officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.
Calling is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the American Legion.
