KEDCo Chair Max Courtney made the announcement recently.
Courtney noted that it all started with a desire by the KEDCo board to evaluate the best practices of other economic development organizations.
A bus filled with community leaders visited Columbus, Ind., to learn firsthand the programs that had led to their successes. One of their successes, the group learned, was an online incubator.
The KEDCo board and marketing committee formed a Kosciusko Business Resource Committee, which included representation from KEDCo, United Way, Warsaw/Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce, Grace College, Ivy Tech Community College, Vision it Now and Lake City Radio.
This committee reviewed online incubator services for small businesses and entrepreneurs and decided to customize a national program to fit the area's unique community needs.
The committee was chaired by board member Josh Gordon of Tower Bank.
According to Gordon, Tools for Business Success had the best value website, which allows economic development organizations to provide a full toolkit online to help businesses start and grow.
"It is customized for Kosciusko County with local, state, federal and best-of-the-web information and resources," said Gordon.
The Kosciusko County United Way board agreed to fund this program for the first year.
"The next step is a training session to be held in early January for small business referrers," said United Way Executive Director Pat Coy.
Invitations will be sent to bankers, lawyers, accountants and others who provide services to the small business community.
George Robertson, KEDCo president, stated, "This is only the beginning of the vision of the KEDCo Board & Kosciusko Business Resources Committee.
"The plan is to build over time a small business and entrepreneurial network for new start-up businesses, to help them become successful entrepreneurs and create new jobs in our county.
"These homegrown small businesses are the foundation of our local economies and the heart of every town's main street in our county," said Robertson.
