Max Courtney, MutualBank, is the incoming chairman taking over for Wayne Luchenbill who stepped down.
Brad Bishop, Zimmer, is the vice chairman; John Boal, Grace College, is the secretary; Joe Kessie, Lake City Bank, is treasurer; Daniel Brown, Phend & Brown, is chairman of the infrastructure committee; Jim Tinkey, MutualBank, is chairman of the retention and expansion committee; and Greg Maxwell, Farmers State Bank, is the chairman of the marketing/attraction committee.[[In-content Ad]]Maxwell and KDI Coordinator Kim Nance met with the Times-Union Tuesday afternoon to talk about the direction KDI is headed.
Since Joy McCarthy-Sessing left the area as both the executive director of the Warsaw/Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce and KDI, Nance has been acting as the de facto executive director.
Maxwell said there is no timetable to hire a new executive director, but they would like someone to fill that position as soon as possible.
Maxwell thanked Nance for her "yeoman-like effort" while the search for an executive director takes place.
KDI serves as an outlet to help attract new business to come into the area as well as helping existing businesses grow.
Nance said it breaks down 80/20 with 80 percent of resources going to existing businesses and 20 percent going to bringing new businesses in.
"We can help with a lot of processes like grants and training programs," said Nance.
Maxwell said the best word to describe KDI is liaison.
"KDI will put you in touch with the right people you need," said Maxwell.
Nance said that training programs KDI runs are certified so not only do they help the business but they help the employee who is being certified.
KDI is also out to help businesses in tax abatements.
Nance said she is currently working on three projects of prospective employers coming to the area. Two of those businesses are orthopedics related while the other is manufacturing. One of those businesses could bring 140 jobs to the area.
Nance said that there is a need for a full-time staff to help bring in business.
KDI also deals in a lot of human resources compliance issues as well as dealing with small businesses.
In terms of bringing in businesses, Maxwell said KDI will continue to work hard to build relationships with site selectors and in-house firms.
Site selection agencies, mostly located out of Chicago, work to help companies choose locations.
Maxwell said having Courtney as the chairman will help.
Courtney is a member of the county's redevelopment commission and that sort of integration will help make KDI more effective, said Maxwell.
Nance said they are looking for more members of the community to join the KDI committees.
