By ANITA WEISHEIT, Times-Union Staff Writer-

No action could be taken at the Kosciusko Development Inc. meeting Wednesday because not enough members of the board attended.

President Joy McCarthy-Sessing said in the future, KDI will have to look into changing the number of board members present at the meeting to take action. Currently, KDI has 27 members on the board. KDI bylaws state that 51 percent of board members are required to be present to take action.

Because of this, the minutes and financial report could not be approved.

McCarthy-Sessing still discussed certain issues to bring the board up to speed.

In other business:

• The Indiana Health Industry Forum did a state study on the economic impact of the health industry this year. Warsaw stood out because of its biomedical industry and KDI wants a more in-depth study done on Kosciusko County.

Dr. Walter Plosila of Battelle Memorial Institution in Cleveland, conducted the study and put together a draft of the results. The draft includes an eco-analysis of the community, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to the health industry and strategies and action plans. This is just a draft and hasn't been completed. The board set Feb. 28 for the presentation and questions.

• McCarthy-Sessing also discussed the Pathfinder program. Pathfinder is a computer program that is a work-based learning opportunity. She said she is starting to work on funding the program, which will be necessary starting July 1.

Pathfinder includes work-based learning opportunities like internships, job shadowing, public speakers and co-op student/job placement. Pathfinder helps students find experience in the workplace to get them started in the direction of their careers. McCarthy-Sessing said she wants the program to help business and education come together and it will be beneficial for all businesses in the community.

• The proposed 2001 budget for KDI is $87,300.

• The next KDI meeting will be Jan. 24 at noon. KDI will discuss the bylaws and changing the number of members needed to be present at meetings to take action. [[In-content Ad]]
