KDI Approves Contract With County

Kosciusko Development Inc. spent much of Wednesday's meeting ironing out a plan for economic development and a job description for a full-time director.
During the first half of the year KDI chairman Roger Moynahan, president Joy McCarthy-Sessing and member Max Courtney visited with the city and town councils comparing dollars spent for economic development in this county with expenditures in other counties.
The organization seeks $100,000 from the county council for the next four years.
Board member and county councilman Bob Sanders advised the board in March to prepare a business plan.
In June a county council committee was established to study economic development.
KDI representatives requested $100,000 during council budget hearings. A plan of work was presented, featuring a full-time staff.
The council answered with a $33,250 contract, which gives KDI $25,000 and matches amounts raised up to $33,250.
No mention of the additional $66,750 was mentioned in the contract. The document did reference an "Exhibit A" detailing KDI's responsibilities.
The KDI executive board approved the contract over objections of KDI chairman Roger Moynahan. He was concerned "Exhibit A" referred to the updated and expanded scope of the organization presented to the council earlier this year.
The board also:
• Reviewed a report from small business development counselor Jan Fry who indicated 57 clients had meetings this year.
• Heard few business have signed up for the Education Summit scheduled Nov. 10. The morning conference is sponsored by the Warsaw/Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce's Education Steering Committee in cooperation with the county's five school corporations.
Keynote speakers include Steven Grill, Michael Harstine and Carrie Yocum of Grace College. They will talk about the Orthopedic Scholar Institute. [[In-content Ad]]
