July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
Groundbreaking for the Kosciusko Community Hospital Cancer Care Center is planned for July 31. The facility will be an 11,000-square-foot structure on Provident Drive between MedStat and the KCH Health and Wellness Center. The facility has been under development for five years and is the fourth construction project at the hospital for Irmscher Construction. Completion is slated for June 2003.
"The new cancer treatment center at KCH is a dream come true," said Dr. John Davis, KCH Board of Trustees chairman. "Through the hard work and detailed planning of many professionals, people with cancer who have had to drive long distances to access radiation therapy will now be able to get that help right here in our county."
Michael Mullins, CEO at KCH, said the hospital will provide the community with the area's most technologically advanced cancer care center. "This will include state-of-the-art equipment, facilities and experienced specialists to meet the needs of cancer patients locally. We will have the latest in equipment and treatment knowledge to provide the highest level of care for community members afflicted with cancer."
The cancer program will consist of chemotherapy and radiation therapy, along with research and clinical trials, a cancer registry, support programs and regular community cancer screenings. The latest technology in radiation therapy called Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy also will be available. [[In-content Ad]]
